Bathroom cabinet heights usually range from 750mm to 900mm with a common height of 850mm. The recommended depth of floor cabinets, including the door or drawer fronts but excluding door handles, is 450mm to 600mm. Where semi-recessed basins are mounted on vanity cabinets, the depth can be reduced to 350mm. Where taps are placed (in benchtop or out of the wall) will also determine the depth of the cabinet.
Special attention should be given to the height of the vanity when a top or surface mounted basin is incorporated. For example, the height of a vanity will need to be reduced to accommodate a basin that sits 150mm above the vanity.
When planning the cabinet layout with custom-made cabinets, ensure that the installation of pipes from the basin is considered carefully. This requires a fully coordinated plumbing plan. A cabinet with a void below e.g. a wall hung vanity, will usually require waste pipes to be ducted into the wall cavity and not through the bathroom floor.
