Creating that distinctive “wow” factor in a kitchen renovation, or indeed any room for that matter, is easier said than done. Everyone’s got their own particular tastes, both in terms of colours and materials, and what looks good for one person may not be of the particular tastes of the other. One thing that does stand out and appeal to everyone, however, is contrast.
Contrast, especially by use of colours, dramatically changes the atmosphere of the room. Contrast creates an energy, one which is perfect for those who are looking to entertain in their kitchen. This design aspect can also work wonders in contemporary homes, where a harsh contrast of black and white will perfectly tie in the modern look and feel of the interior.
Take in point one of our most recent kitchen renovations, this time in the bayside suburb of Black Rock. As you can see, contrast plays a huge part of its design, both in terms of colour and even materials. The island bench and kitchen benchtop, with their clean and glossy lines, have created a very ultra-modern feel about the area, allowing the timber floorboards to act largely by itself.
The area housing the fridge and oven has been turned into somewhat of a faux feature wall, which conceals a large pantry and storage area behind. This photo helps to show the large degree of space and scale of this particular kitchen renovation. The kitchen is very open, ideal for gatherings and entertaining guests, and opens up to the backyard and the rest of the home, as you can see below.
This image is perhaps the best illustrator of the power of black and white as a contrast. Whilst the interior is largely white, using black as an accent colour has largely changed the dynamic of the area. You can also see how the benchtop overlooks the living area, creating a bar-like area for when guests and friends come over.
We can do the same for you, too.
